Jim McClelland is a professor of Art at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. His early years in rural Michigan provided the stimulus for his interest in wildlife and the visual arts. "Whenever I paint a bird's wing, a leaf or the texture of tree bark, I have a sense of wonder, and respect. I hope my paintings give the viewer a glimpse into the Creator's work in the natural world that has held such fascination and meaning for me." The cardinal thrives from New England to the Southwestern deserts. It inhabits thickets, evergreens, gardens and low trees. From early January throughout the summer, its varied and brilliant songs can be heard, often in harmony with its mate with whom it forms fairly permanent pair bonds.
