This bowl with a very unique grain pattern measures approximately 9 1/2" in diameter and 4 1/3" tall. Many crotch grain patterns are from a vertical slice (imagine the slice being cut vertical while the tree is standing). The fantastic grain pattern comes from a crotch cross section (imagine the piece cut horizontally while the tree is standing) near the beginning of the crotch. What you see are the pith or center of each limb on the right and left sides. The center pattern comes from the bark of each limb as they grew together into one piece. Upon close inspection one can see figuring of the grain where the light colored sap wood grew together into one piece
